EVERY CHILD.
EVERY CHANCE FOR A BRIGHT FUTURE.
Partnership Proposal 2025
THE POWER OF YOUR PARTNERSHIP
This has been a year of tremendous upheaval for children and families, with programs they depend on for survival gutted or eliminated entirely.
Like so many times in Save the Children's 106-year history, our work is at a crossroads amid global change. Once again, we're guided by our founder's bold vision of a world where every child is nurtured, protected and educated – and compassionate donors like you continue to make that vision possible.
We're rebounding from deep cuts in U.S. foreign assistance and advancing a new solutions-focused sector to meet this pivotal moment for children. It starts with building on our strengths and focusing on areas where your support will have the greatest impact:
PROVIDING HEALTH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO CHILDREN UNDER 10
INVESTING IN HUMANITARIAN PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE
SUPPORTING EDUCATION IN RURAL AMERICA
For several urgent challenges – from child hunger to illiteracy – we know what works. But now is the time to rethink how we operate in an increasingly volatile funding environment to create lasting change for as many children as possible. Under the strong leadership of President and CEO Janti Soeripto, Save the Children is seizing this moment to become more efficient, collaborative and experimental while continuing to drive transformational impact.
Your partnership provides us the flexibility to direct funds where they’re needed most to save lives, rise to new challenges and fuel progress for children. Our shared commitment to children is stronger than ever!
“THIS MOMENT OF DISRUPTION IS AN OPPORTUNITY WE CAN'T AFFORD TO WASTE.”

IMPROVING CHILD HEALTH
Emergency Health Unit (EHU): Kids today are caught in increasingly severe and complex humanitarian crises – but just when children need them most, healthcare facilities are damaged or overwhelmed.
That's why, with your support, we continue to invest in the EHU’s capability to assemble seasoned teams of health professionals and logisticians, ready to act within hours. From conflict zones in Gaza and Sudan to disease outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to hunger crises in Kenya and Afghanistan, the EHU is in constant demand.
It helps establish fully functional clinics or hospitals and run mass vaccination campaigns. Crucially, as emergencies stabilize, the EHU transitions care to local staff, trusted partners and Ministries of Health to leave health systems stronger and ensure service continuity.
ADVANCING LITERACY IN RURAL AMERICA
The United States of Readers. The ability to read proficiently by the end of third grade is one of the strongest predictors of a child’s future success. Yet in 2024, 69% of fourth graders in the United States failed to meet reading proficiency standards.
Your investment contributes to programs designed specifically for rural communities, which often lack libraries and services to support kindergarten readiness and grade-level proficiency in reading and math. We’re taking bold action to address the literacy crisis through our new partnership with Scholastic and Impact Reading.
Together, we’ll expand the United States of Readers, an initiative to provide children – particularly those in rural and underserved communities – with access to high-quality books that they choose and are thus excited to read. The program will launch in the 2025–26 academic year in schools that Save the Children currently supports across 14 states.
STRENGTHENING GLOBAL LEARNING
Safe Back to School. Kids who struggle to gain access to education – including children with disabilities, girls, refugees and displaced children – participate in our global Safe Back to School programs, which accelerate the reading, math and life skills of more than 475,000 people in 26 countries.
We use flexible funding to develop the most effective approaches for children who’ve missed out on school or experienced learning gaps. One of our evidence-based tools is IDELA (International Development and Early Learning Assessment). Introduced in 2014, this free toolkit has been used by more than 130 organizations – including universities and early childhood education practitioners in over 80 countries – to improve access to quality early learning.
SAVING CHILDREN'S LIVES, NO MATTER WHAT
Our philanthropic partners stepped up tremendously in early 2025, donating critical undesignated funds in response to the foreign aid cuts, ensuring we could continue to reach as many children and families as possible. Many donors redirected previously restricted gifts to our overall mission fund – understanding the gravity of the moment and trusting Save the Children to direct the money where it was needed most.
Thanks to our supporters, we were able to allocate flexible humanitarian funding to nine countries to fill critical gaps and provide much-needed resources to some of the most vulnerable people, including children like 16-month-old Roya* shown in Afghanistan, being assessed for malnutrition.
HERE ARE A FEW EXAMPLES OF LIVESAVING DONOR IMPACT:
AFGHANISTAN
Our teams continued vital water, sanitation and hygiene services as well as critical work at our health and nutrition facilities.
MYANMAR
Our teams continued essential work providing water, sanitation and hygiene, purchased medical equipment and strengthened emergency preparedness.
SUDAN
Our teams continued health, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene and child protection activities.
SOMALIA
Our teams continued water, sanitation and hygiene activities, along with health, nutrition and child protection services in Somaliland, Puntland and Baidoa.
CRISIS RECOVERY: EDUCATION CANNOT WAIT
When a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar in March, 12-year-old Nay Min* lost the home he shared with his parents and older sister. Now, his family is surviving on limited savings while living in a temporary shelter.
Your flexible funding allows us to preposition emergency supplies, respond immediately to a crisis of this scale and help support children’s long-term recovery. We distributed lifesaving items like food and clean water as well as cash assistance to Nay Min’s family.
Unlike traditional humanitarian funding, flexible funds can be quickly distributed to local and national partners as soon as – or even before – crisis strikes. These resources not only ensure fast relief reaches those most affected but also strengthens local leadership and community resilience over time.
Thanks to donors like you, Save the Children stays as long as it takes to help restore education – a critical and underfunded component of disaster recovery for children.
In Myanmar, we’re providing school supplies to kids like Nay Min, helping schools complete repairs and setting up safe environments so children can get back to learning as quickly as possible. As of June, we’ve provided assistance to over 7.3 million people across 19 countries, meeting humanitarian needs like education.
RALLYING TO BEAT CHILD HUNGER
Global hunger has reached a record high. The combined impact of conflict, climate change and dramatic funding cuts to lifesaving programs has left children fighting for their lives. But we know how to treat and prevent malnutrition, avoiding progression to the deadly acute stage.
Abdi* is a playful 21-month-old who’s learning to talk. Malnutrition posed a serious threat to his health and development. When he arrived at a Save the Children health center in Somaliland, he was severely weakened from the condition.
His big sister, 10-year-old Faduma*, was worried sick. They come from a region where frequent droughts and floods lead to crop failures, livestock deaths, food insecurity and displacement. Abdi’s recovery was made possible with inexpensive treatment, including ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) and special biscuits fortified with essential micronutrients. Play the video to see Abdi before treatment and six months later.
CASH ASSISTANCE: PIONEERING DIGNIFIED SOLUTIONS
Cash programming is the greatest innovation in development assistance in the past quarter century. Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen’s research shows that the biggest challenge for families in poverty isn’t food scarcity – it’s affording groceries.
Save the Children has been putting this insight into action since 1998, pioneering effective cash delivery programs to improve children’s lives worldwide. From Indonesia and Nigeria to Somalia and Ukraine, we empower families with direct financial support, ensuring they’re able to provide children with the nutrition and care they need.
Thanks to flexible funding from supporters like you, we invest in leading-edge research on cash assistance, working with global experts to develop the most effective and efficient approaches. In 2023, a groundbreaking randomized control study we conducted in Somalia with Johns Hopkins University found that providing mothers with as little as $80 a month led to a remarkable 10% reduction in toddler wasting – even amid seasonal flooding, active conflict and displacement. This reduction happened within three months of providing cash assistance paired with nutrition education, which only cost $5-$7 per child. Since 2019, your support has helped us deliver $711 million to families through our cash assistance programs.
EMPOWERING THEIR SEARCH FOR SAFETY
Three years of relentless attacks in Ukraine have forced 9-year-old Anna* and her family to move six times. Olena,* Anna’s mom, says the constant uprooting and goodbyes to friends have been tough on Anna, the oldest of three children.
Displacement has also brought financial hardship. Although Olena and her husband had jobs before the war, they now often resort to asking for money from others to make ends meet. Anna has scoliosis and needs regular access to specialist rehabilitation services, which are either closed or too expensive.
Thousands of Ukrainians have lost their homes, incomes and savings, while the cost of rent, utility bills and food has risen sharply. Through cash assistance from Save the Children, Olena says her family is settling into a new home – grateful to be able to cover the first month’s rent and utilities and have breathing room to plan for a more stable future.
YOUR SUPPORT SUSTAINS HOPE
The world is changing, and so is Save the Children. But our north star remains: Every child deserves every chance for a bright future – no matter who they are or where they live.
Together with dedicated partners like you, we’re working tirelessly to find new solutions so children don't arrive at closed health clinics, go without food or face trauma alone.
Thank you for being a champion for children!
